-Smithfield Elementary is having a clothing drive for the Birdville Council of PTA’s Clothes Connection April 28 ‒ May 1. Donations may be brought to the office. The class with the most donations will win a prize.

-Green Valley Elementary’s PTA Meeting/Awards Banquet and Celebration Dinner begins at 6:15 p.m. April 28. Tickets are $3 per person with a limited number of tickets available at the door.

-Mullendore Elementary’s PTA Chuck E. Cheese Night is from 3–8 p.m. April 29.

-Kona Ice, a local snow cone truck, will be parked outside Smithfield Elementary after school on April 29. A portion of the sale proceeds will go back to the PTA.

-Binion Elementary is having a parent chaperone meeting concerning the fourth-grade trip to Austin from 6–8 p.m. April 30 in the cafeteria.

-Snow Heights Elementary’s Core Value Breakfast begins at 7:40 a.m. April 30.

-Tennis Play Day/Tryouts for all incoming seventh- and returning eighth-grade students at Smithfield and Richland middle schools are from 4:15‒5:30 p.m. April 30 at Birdville High. Students must have a racquet.

-Athletic physicals for the 2014‒15 school year for Richland High School and North Ridge and North Richland middle schools are April 30 in the RHS gym. Physicals begin at 2:30 p.m. for all high school athletes. North Ridge and North Richland athletes (boys & girls) begin at 4:30 p.m. with doors closing at 6:30 p.m. All middle school athletes must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Physicals are $10 if purchased prior to April 25. Tickets purchased after April 25 are $15. Prior to April 25, tickets for timeslots must be purchased and all paperwork returned. If financial assistance is needed, contact athletic trainers Dean Broxterman at 817-547-7089 or Cynthia West at 817-547-7506 before the day of the physicals.

-Spicer Elementary’s talent show is May 5.

-“Musical Awakenings” will be presented at The Academy at West Birdville to second-, third- and fourth-grade students at 1:30 p.m. May 5.

-Foster Village Elementary’s second-grade field trip to the Artisan Center is from 9:15 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. May 6.

-The Academy at West Birdville is having a Bluebonnet and Box Top Celebration at 2 p.m. May 5 in the library. For information, call 817-547-2500.

-Green Valley Elementary’s College Day is May 7.

-Fourth-grade students at Smithfield Elementary will attend a field trip to the Museum of Science and History May 7.

-The Academy at West Birdville is hosting a Cinco de Mayo celebration from 6:30‒8 p.m. May 8.

-The Academy at West Birdville’s Field Day for kindergarten, first- and second-grade students is May 9.

-First-grade students from Spicer Elementary will take a field trip to Casa Mañana May 9.

-Green Valley Elementary’s Field Day is May 9.

-Second-grade students at Green Valley Elementary will take a field trip to the Artisan Theater May 13.

-Smithfield Elementary’s Skate Night is from 5‒8 p.m. May 15 at Roller World on Denton Highway. Proceeds go to our PE department. For information, call 817-547-2100.

-Spicer Elementary’s fifth-grade awards ceremony is from 8:30‒10:30 a.m. May 30 in the cafeteria.

-Birdville High School is offering summer art camp opportunities June 9–12 and June 16–19. Classes for ages 7–10 are from 8:30–11:30 a.m. and ages 11–14 are from 12:30–3:30 p.m. For information, speak with your campus art teacher or contact Shana Martin at

-BISD started an employee recognition program called “A Touch of Class.” This program is an opportunity for students, staff, parents and community members to recognize employees for the extra-ordinary things they do for children and the district. -BISD is accepting online applications for parent/community volunteers for the 2014‒15 school year. New and returning volunteers can enter or renew their application online at

-Birdville ISD and JPS have joined together to provide two school-based clinics in the district. One is in Haltom City at 2807 Layton Ave., and the other is on the south side of the Academy at C.F. Thomas at 8200 O’Brian Way in North Richland Hills. The clinics treat students in BISD and their siblings, ages newborn to 18 years old. Services include: well-child visits, sports physicals, acute care, chronic illnesses (asthma, diabetes), immunizations, and much more. The clinic does not have X-ray capabilities or dental services. They see uninsured or Medicaid students that do not have a specified primary care physician. For appointments, call 817-759-2035 (Haltom City).
