Last year, Haltom City received a $1.2 million dollar federal grant for the construction of new sidewalks near three BISD schools. The program, called Safe Routes to Schools, is administered by TxDOT and improves the safety of students walking and biking to school. The 7.6 miles of sidewalk construction also improves crossings at railroad tracks and streets. The sidewalks are expected to be complete this summer before students return to school.
The grand opening for the renovated Little Fossil Park was recently held for the renovated park, located at 4412 Hadley Street. The park features three tournament quality softball fields, new playground, new concession building and new restroom building. In anticipation of the new fields and improvements made to the facility the Haltom City Girl’s Softball Association had more than 300 girls register for the 2014 season. This is the largest number of participants in league history. Due to the park’s proximity to Broadway Park and the three existing fields there, Haltom City also now has the opportunity to host larger softball and baseball tournaments. The improvements to the park were made possible by funds from the 2010 bond election.
