Community Invited to Push New North Richland Hills Fire Truck into Service

The North Richland Hills Fire Department invites the community to help push its new fire truck into service on Friday, August 22, 2014. Known in the fire service as a “housing ceremony,” this special event will take place at 10:30 a.m. at Fire Station #2 located at 4001 Rufe Snow Drive.

The “housing ceremony” involves having dignitaries, citizens and firefighters wash and push the fire truck to the firehouse, a tradition that dates back to the 18th century when fire departments used horse-drawn equipment. Since horses could not easily push the equipment back into the stations after fire calls, firefighters had to back the gear in.
