First Day of School, August 25
Irving ISD schools will welcome students on August 25 for the first day of school.

Online Student Registration and On-Site Residency Verification Continues
All Irving ISD students are required to register online for the 2014-2015 school year and verify residency at their child’s school. Irving ISD Partners with Amadi Guess Foundation for After-School Programs
At the August 18 meeting of the Irving ISD Board of Trustees, the board unanimously approved a partnership with the Amadi Guess Foundation to provide an after-school program that will give students access to free meals and enrichment opportunities. For the 2014-2015 school year, the program will be offered in Irving ISD at four elementary schools, all eight middle schools and Nimitz High School.

The after-school program, slated to start on September 15, will be offered at no cost to all parents and students at designated schools. Parents can register their children at their local school. For additional information about the Amadi Guess after-school program, please visit

Excellence in Financial Reporting
For the 26th consecutive year, Irving ISD has been awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. The Certificate of Achievement has been presented to Kimberlyee Chappell, director of business operations, who prepared the comprehensive financial report submitted to GFOA.

Student Accident Insurance Available
Starting with the 2014-2015 school year, families with children attending an Irving ISD school have the opportunity to purchase student accident insurance at a low cost. Participation is the district’s insurance program is strictly voluntary. The following types of coverage for PK-12 are available: At-school, 24-hour, extended dental, fall football, and spring football. Irving ISD Serves Free Breakfast, Announces Lunch Prices
Elementary and middle school grade students attending an Irving ISD school will receive free breakfast for the 2014-2015 school year. While many students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, the cost of elementary lunch for the 2014-2015 school year is $1.75.

Irving ISD Launches Attendance Success Initiative
With a student attendance rate goal of 97 percent throughout the district, Irving ISD will begin an unprecedented district-led program designed to improve student attendance and student achievement. To get students in class and keep them in school, Irving ISD has a team of experienced administrators who will work directly with parents, students and campus staff to develop individualized support and mentorship for students facing attendance challenges.

Irving ISD Introduces New Volunteer Application System,
All Volunteers Required to Complete New Application Using Raptor
Irving ISD has recently deployed the Raptor Volunteer Application System at all Irving ISD campuses and facilities. All returning and new volunteers will need to complete the application in order to be cleared to volunteer at any district location or district-sponsored event this school year. The Raptor Volunteer Application will be available at the following locations:
· All school front offices on designated computers
· All school parent centers and/or other designated locations where a computer station is available
· At the Administration Building reception desk

Safety Procedures and Bag Inspections Continue at Irving Schools Stadium
Security officers at the Irving Schools Stadium will continue with bag inspections that began in the 2013 football season. All backpacks, large purses and other bags will be inspected at the entrance to the stadium. Security officers will be looking for prohibited items such as weapons and/or alcohol, which are never allowed on district property. Small clutch purses will not be subject to bag checks.
