18th Annual Government Procurement Conference
SBA Regional Administrator, Yolanda Garcia Olivarez, will be speaking at The 18th Annual Government Procurement Conference (GPC) scheduled for Wednesday, August 6, at the Arlington Convention Center, 1200 Ballpark Way. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with the opening sessions at 8:15 a.m. and closes at 4:00 p.m. Register for the conference at www.gpc-texas.org.
The GPC is aimed at expanding public sector business opportunities for the small business community. It also serves to introduce new suppliers to the extended governmental supply chain. Numerous federal agencies such as the Department of Defense, prime contractors, municipalities, counties, and school districts will be participating.
The Obama Administration and SBA has placed an unprecedented level of focus on providing small businesses with greater opportunities to provide goods and services to the federal government,” Regional Administrator Yolanda Garcia Olivarez said. “As a result of this effort, in fiscal year 2013, the federal government met its goal of awarding 23% of eligible contracting dollars to small businesses. In Fiscal 2013, Texas firms received $4.4 billion in federal contracts, according to an Aug. 1st Geographical Place of Performance Report.
To help small businesses learn how to access these dollars, there will be workshops on; How to Do Business with the Federal Government, Are You Ready for Prime Time, and How to Conduct Business with Local Governments.
“The DFW district office makes it a priority to participant in the GPC every year to ensure small businesses are getting the information needed to go after federal contracts” said Herbert Austin, DFW district director.
