Tax-Free Weekend Helps Parents And Teachers Cope With Education Cuts

Tax-Free Weekend Helps Parents And Teachers Cope With Education Cuts

This year, Texas Annual Sales Tax Holiday begins today, August 8th, and lasts through Sunday, August 10th. The Tax-Free Weekend allows Texas shoppers a break from state and local sales taxes on most clothing and school supplies priced under $100.

Senator Leticia Van de Putte released the following statement:

“As a mother of six, and grandmother of six, I know just how much Texas families look forward to Tax-Free Weekend. For Texas teachers, who often pay hundreds of dollars out of their own pockets for student supplies, the sales tax holiday helps them stretch their dollar.

“As Lieutenant Governor, I will put Texas students, parents and teachers first. Texans deserve local neighborhood schools that have the resources necessary to get our students to and through college. The budget should never be balanced on the backs of our children. Teachers should not have to pull from their own pockets to buy supplies for their students.”
