Gov. Perry Appoints Townes to Texas Lottery Commission
Gov. Rick Perry has appointed John W. Townes III of Granbury to the Texas Lottery Commission for a term to expire Feb. 1, 2015. The commission oversees the Texas Lottery, and ensures lottery and bingo games are conducted in a legal and fair manner.
Townes is retired senior vice president of USAA and previously served in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a rear admiral. He is chairman of the Texas Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Foundation Board of Directors, and a past board member of the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and Roy Maas’ Youth Alternatives.
Townes received a bachelor’s degree from the U.S. Naval Academy and a master’s degree in national security and foreign affairs from the U.S. Naval War College. He completed the Senior Officials in National Security Fellowship at the Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government.
