The Corpus Christi Caller-Times Endorses Leticia Van de Putte for Lt. Governor

Early this morning, Corpus Christi Caller-Times announced their endorsement of Leticia Van de Putte for Lieutenant Governor. The Caller-Times touted Senator Van de Putte’s bipartisanship, legislative record, her policy proposals, and concluded Senator Leticia Van de Putte is a deserving candidate and the “Democrat that GOP voters should trust.” [Corpus Christi Caller-Times, 9/19/14]

In an honest assessment of her opponent, Tea-Party favorite Dan Patrick, they discussed what Republicans have been saying: “It’s in all Texans’ best interest to vote against the Republican nominee, Houston state Sen. Dan Patrick.”

Corpus Christi Caller-Times on Leticia Van de Putte’s leadership:

“Van de Putte is the most deserving Democrat in any race we’ve examined this cycle. Her colleagues in the majority-Republican Senate respect her and would welcome her leadership.”

“Van de Putte displays a strong grasp of issues even for someone who has been in the Legislature since 1991. She represents a landlocked district but is as informed about coastal windstorm insurance as acclaimed near-expert Hunter, one of many Republicans of whom she speaks highly.”

“She correctly identifies education and transportation and water infrastructure as priority issues.”

Corpus Christi Caller-Times on Dan Patrick’s Divisive Politics:

“He’s divisive, demagogic and committed to ignoring Democratic state senators if he’s elected.”

“In Patrick’s entire Senate career he has tried to undo the Senate’s long two-thirds tradition of requiring 21 votes to bring legislation to the floor, which prevents tyranny of the majority. He has pledged to try again, hard, as lieutenant governor.”

“So, if Patrick had his way, he’d effectively neuter the Senate’s minority Democrats in a way that disenfranchises all of their Republican constituents.”
