Texas Democrats Celebrate National Coming Out Day
Today marks the 26th anniversary of National Coming Out Day, when the LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning) community comes together and remembers the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights.
In celebration of the brave men and women coming out today and the contributions of the LGBTQ community, Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa released the following statement:
“National Coming Out Day helps to lend a voice to those who are silenced. It gives them a platform to speak up and be proud of who they are. As the first southern state party to include marriage equality in our party platform, the Texas Democratic Party is proud to be an ally to the LGBTQ community.
“For too long, Republicans have tried to deny equality to thousands of Texans. Though we’ve made progress over the past 26 years, we know there is still more work to be done. Today, we renew our efforts and commitment to building a brighter future for all Texans.”
