HEB: Update on Ebola Virus
Dear HEB ISD Community,
We have updated information for you about the Ebola virus and Frontier flight #1143.
We were notified Wednesday that an employee at the HEB ISD Transition Center was on flight 1143.
The Transition Center is a building located on Central Drive in the administration complex that houses Special Education support staff, such as diagnosticians and psychologists. There is one classroom with 13 adult students.
The Transition Center employee is a member of the clerical staff and does not have direct contact with students. This employee has not exhibited any symptoms of Ebola and is certainly not contagious. However, Superintendent of Schools Steve Chapman placed the employee on leave for 21 days as a precautionary measure.
The Superintendent personally met with the Transition Center staff to tell them about the employee on leave. The Transition Center staff made personal phone calls to the parents of the 13 students to let them know they would receive a letter at the end of the day Thursday.
HEB ISD did not include the details about the Transition Center in the letter to the community yesterday because we needed to be sure that the parents of the Transition Center had actually received the letter by the end of the business day before sharing this information with the public.
HEB ISD released the information about the Transition Center to the local media at the end of the business day Thursday and we are providing this update to the rest of HEB ISD parents today now that this information is being made public.
The safety and security of all students and staff is our highest priority in HEB ISD and we will continue to provide information on any safety issue in the future.
