Dragons Produce Another Late Thriller

Dragons Produce Another Late Thriller

The Carroll Dragons’ 2014 season is becoming defined by late-game thrilling victories.

The Dragons produced another last Friday with a 10-6 victory against Trinity in a showdown of state-ranked powers at sold-out Dragon Stadium. The Dragons, ranked No. 3 in the state, took sole possession of first place in District 7-6A at 7-0 and 3-0 and handed No. 4-ranked Trinity its first loss of the season.

Carroll scored the go-ahead touchdown with 5:16 left in the game on a 4th-and-goal run at the 2-yard line by Lil’ Jordan Humphrey. The Dragons attempted a field goal on the previous play, but Trinity was offside and Carroll opted to go for the touchdown.

Trinity took the final possession down to the Dragons’ 9-yard line, but couldn’t get a play off on 4th down as time expired giving the Dragons its fourth dramatic win of the season. Carroll defeated Tulsa Union in overtime during non-district, upended Coppell with a TD in the final minute and held off Austin Westlake in the final seconds.

Dragon quarterback Ryan Agnew was 17-for-276 with 170 yards passing. Humphrey had 28 carries for 106 yards and one TD. Receiver Parker Fentriss led the team with six catches for 77 yards. Carroll finished with 275 yards and Trinity had 281 and was held to 13 first downs.
