The City of North Richland Hills congratulates Don Bowen for being named the 2014 Planning Commissioner of the Year by the Texas Chapter of the American Planning Association and thanks him for his many years of service.
Don Bowen presented awardMr. Bowen was first appointed serve on the North Richland Hills Planning & Zoning Commission in 1980, shortly after moving his family to our community. Throughout the course of his 34 uninterrupted years of service, he has attended more than 550 Commission meetings and displayed an unparalleled level of dedication and commitment to the growth and development of North Richland Hills.
His record of service includes 11 years as the Planning & Zoning Commission secretary, 1 year as vice-chairman, and 8 years as chairman. During his tenure, Mr. Bowen and his fellow commissioners considered thousands of cases that have resulted in the development of more than more than 35,000 new homes and hundreds of thousands of new commercial square footage. Mr. Bowen’s loyalty, commitment, and dedication to serving the community are a shining example for other elected and appointed officials.
Wendy Shabay, president of the Texas Chapter of the American Planning Association, presented the 2014 Planning Commissioner of the Year Award to Mr. Bowen during the November 10, 2014 City Council Meeting. He was also honored with a proclamation from the Mayor and City Council making November 10, 2014 Don Bowen Day in the City of North Richland Hills.
The entire Planning & Zoning Commission and the Planning & Development staff were also presented a 2014 Certificate of Achievement for Planning Excellence from the Texas Chapter of the American Planning Association. The city congratulates and thanks all of the Commissioners and staff for the great work that they do.
