NISD Elementary Campus Earns Equivalent of $208,000+ Volunteer Hours
Northwest Independent School District administration and Lakeview staff celebrated Lakeview Elementary volunteers on April 14 for being named the Northwest ISD Partners in Education (PIE) Campus of the Year. Volunteers were presented the “Circle of Teamwork” trophy for their hard work and dedication this school year. The campus has logged approximately 8,890 volunteer hours from July 1, 2014 to April 3, 2015. Results have been determined based on total hours logged per student.
“What an amazing achievement to win this award for two consecutive years,” said Principal Mary Seltzer. “A day does not go by without seeing parents and volunteers serving in so many ways at our campus. From working in teacher’s classrooms to setting up for book fairs to practicing with our Destination Imagination teams, our PTA and parents are dedicated to making Lakeview a very special place to learn.”
The current estimate for the value of a volunteer hour is $23.40, according to Independent Sector, the nation’s largest non-partisan coalition of nonprofit organizations. The volunteers of Lakeview Elementary have contributed the equivalent of roughly $208,026 to Northwest ISD.
“In April, in honor of National Volunteer Month, Northwest ISD is honored to recognize our volunteers publically for their dedication, service and partnership with NISD,” said Superintendent Karen G. Rue, Ed.D. “I am so proud of the volunteers at Lakeview Elementary for achieving this award. I want to thank all of our parents and volunteers at each of our campuses for their volunteerism. We could not do what we do without you and your work in our buildings for children!”
NISD provides numerous opportunities to engage parents and the community in the education of children. Currently, the district has more than 6,900 approved volunteers.
