Faith Christian Work-A-Thon
Nearly 75 Faith Christian students divided and conquered at three busy GRACE sites last Friday. The team was part of Faith’s annual Work-a-thon, a campaign that raises funds for the school by receiving pledges from close friends and family for every hour of volunteer service.
Each group was eager to serve at Donation Station, Transitional Housing or the Food Pantry, where they spent the morning sorting food, cleaning the grounds, and organizing donated items from that week.
Faith Christian has a steadfast history with GRACE, whose students serve regularly on behalf of Faith or with their personal time. Throughout the years, the student body has served at GRACEful Buys, Christmas Cottage and our holiday food drives.
“When Faith Christian students register to serve GRACE, we know they mean business!” says Volunteer Manager Lara Hohweiler, “it’s always a pleasure working with them, and it’s apparent that each student has an earnest heart to serve families that may not have had the same upbringing they had. Students who serve on a regular basis pave a strong path for altruism into adulthood.”
Not only is volunteering good for the spirit, studies show that regular volunteerism is good for the body. Health benefits range from lower blood pressure to reduced stress on vital organs. There is even an indication that volunteering increases mental elasticity and improves cardiovascular health. While a heightened awareness and functioning is ideal for budding students, as Christians we recognize the true motivation for serving others:
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” –Matthew 5:16
We are grateful for Faith Christian’s loyal partnership with GRACE to shine His light in our community.
