Street Jitsu Gym in Roanoke

Street Jitsu Gym in Roanoke

Street Jitsu is a unique Jiu-Jitsu gym owned and operated by Dennis and his wife Kelly in Roanoke, Texas. Dennis states, “Street Jitsu is a unique concept because we incorporate both self-defense and fitness into our classes. Most gyms only offer only one or the other; either the coaches look great but can’t defend themselves, or they have a basic knowledge of a non-competitive martial art but are in horrible physical condition—they don’t care about living a healthy lifestyle or keeping themselves physically fit.” Street Jitsu first operated out of the owners’ home in Keller around April of 2012. In the beginning, Street Jitsu offered only private, personal training sessions and seminars out of clients’ homes or businesses. As the year progressed, the founders opened a Dojo in Roanoke and began offering group classes. “We quickly outgrew the small 1,200 foot studio in Keller and moved to our current state-of-the-art world class training center in August 2015. My wife Kelly and I chose to open our gym in Roanoke because we like the community and the surrounding areas. Our ultimate goal for opening our gym was to teach people fitness and self-defense by providing individuals with the proper knowledge to protect themselves and live healthy lives.”

Street Jitsu offers the community a variety of classes and services, such as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Submission Wrestling, Boxing, Muay Thai, MMA and Zumba Fitness. As a special service to the community, Street Jitsu will soon release a no-contact boxing program for those suffering from Parkinson’s disease. Some experts suggest that continuous, intensive training may slow, stop, or reverse the progression of Parkinson’s or promote neuro-restoration. As followers in the Christian faith, “It is a mission for us to help other people improve their lives. Our members have quit smoking, lost weight, and cured ailments such as type-two diabetes. Children have cut back or completely stopped taking ADD & ADHD medications, and experienced an increase in personal confidence.” Children four years and older, teenagers, adults or anyone looking to improve their overall health or self-defense skills will benefit from training at Street Jitsu.
