Haltom City Awarded Guinness World Record
On Saturday, November 15, 2014, also America and Texas Recycles Day, a to- tal of 60 volunteers worked diligently for 14.5 hours to set a new Guinness World Record of building the largest sculpture made from 18,000 cardboard boxes. The sculpture was a replica of the original Birdville County Court- house from 1855, sketched by Don Tipps and design plan by architect, Daniel Williams, measuring 41’3” long, 14’ high; 25’6” deep. Beautification board mem- bers from Keep Haltom City Beautiful, first learned about building a cardboard box structure from the
2014 Keep Texas Beauti- ful Conference and teamed up with the Northeast En- vironmental Team to break the world record. Total volunteer time for the day was over 487 hours, made up by local high school students, community members, elected officials from three of the four cit- ies, volunteers from local businesses, board mem- bers, and city employees. The Hills Center in North Richland Hills generously donated the workspace for the sculpture and the boxes and packing tape were do- nated by local retailer Har- ris Packaging as well as lo- cal residents.
