Irving ISD Statement: Shooting in Residential Area
On Saturday afternoon, Irving ISD officials learned that a Nimitz High School student was the victim of a shooting that took place at a residence. While privacy laws prevent us from sharing specific details about the student or the student’s medical records, district officials have been told that the student is being treated at a hospital and is expected to recover.
“Based on the information we have received, we believe the student will make a full recovery and that is the best possible outcome from a tragedy like this,” says Irving ISD Superintendent of Schools Jose L. Parra, Ed.D. “Our thoughts and prayers are with this student and the friends and families who have been affected by this weekend tragedy.”
To help students and staff cope, crisis counselors will be available at Nimitz High School. “We assure families that we will have counselors and extra support available for our students as long as needed,” says Parra.
Irving ISD is cooperating fully with the ongoing police investigation.
