New Full-Time Position: Police Officer

Position Summary

Works uniformed patrol to identify and apprehend suspects for criminal violations, enforce traffic laws, respond to calls for service, respond to disturbances, and submit written reports and testify in court.

Essential Job Functions

  • Enforces traffic laws, investigates traffic accidents and directs traffic.
  • Responds to calls for service; investigates and arrests suspects in criminal offenses.
  • Submits written reports on most police activities.
  • Conducts directed and preventive patrol.
  • Testifies in City, County and Juvenile court.
  • Responds to calls for service and provides assistance to citizens in non-criminal matters.
  • Serves as a Field Training Officer as required.
  • May be assigned to a specialized unit.
  • Ability to work all shifts, days, and holidays.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Ability to learn firearm proficiency, police tactical driving, defensive tactics and operation of a Mobile Computer, and all appropriate reporting systems.
  • Knowledge of Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, Texas Penal Code, Texas Family Code, Texas Motor Vehicle Code, Texas Alcohol Beverage Code, City of Hurst Municipal Code, Hurst Police Department General Orders Manual, City Personnel Policies and Procedures, and M.D.T.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, to coordinate multiple assignments and tasks, and to work independently.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with city employees and the general public in stressful situations.
  • Analyze situations and make instantaneous decisions correctly.
  • Knowledge of the sociological and psychological aspects of human behavior.
  • Ability to learn and adhere to the City of Hurst Code of Ideals.
  • Ability to testify in legal proceedings.

 

New Part-Time PositionEngineering Intern

Position Summary

This position will gain valuable time credits necessary for engineering licensure. This part-time position involves extensive contact with the public. This position is not eligible for TMRS.

Essential Job Functions

  • REPORTS to the City Engineer and provides support to engineering staff.
  • CREATES, ENTERS, and ANALYZES data for engineering reports and other special reports.
  • ASSISTS with the preparation of plans and specifications.
  • ASSISTS the GIS staff with developing and maintaining data.
  • USES AutoCad, HecRas, and Synchro with emphasis on water resources and traffic engineering.
  • PARTICIPATES on special committees and completes special assignments, as required.
  • PERFORMS special assignments as assigned by City Engineer.
  • ARRIVES at work on time and WORKS assigned schedule.
  • ADHERES to Code of Ideals.
  • PERFORMS other duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Skills in use of a calculator, PC, spreadsheets, Access, and Word.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions to complete assignments.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with the public and City personnel.
  • Ability to compile and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to read and understand technical material related to engineering principals.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time and operate equipment such as computers, printers, and telephone.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering principals and fundamental theory a plus.
