Mark Klein Proves You’re Never too Old to Laugh
Generally speaking, assisted living facilities aren’t known as being hotbeds of comedy, but stand-up veteran Mark Klein is hoping to change that by performing for the severely underserved senior market. “My dad is in his 90s,” says Klein. “If he still enjoys comedy, I see no reason other folks his age won’t enjoy it, as well.” In fact, performing for people like his father has become Klein’s personal mission.
Mark Klein began his professional stand-up career during the comedy boom of the 80s. Since then he’s gone on to conquer the cruise ship circuit and corporate comedy gigs.
Now Mark is setting out to do what most comics would consider unthinkable. He’s going to perform for seniors who many comics would find challenging if not downright frightening to perform for. He, however, sees no problem with it. “Just because they are older, doesn’t mean they have lost their need for laughter and love of comedy.”
Klein isn’t the only one who believes laughter is good for senior citizens. Programs like therapeutic laughter and laugh yoga are catching fire across the country with the goal of keeping seniors in good health and good cheer. A live comedy event that includes the greater community makes the senior living center an entertainment venue as well as a place to live.
