Vaqueros hit road for first time in 2017 NPSL season
FORT WORTH _ The Vaqueros hit the road for the first time this season on Wednesday in a match with dual significance.
The 7 p.m. game against the Shreveport Rafters marks the first NPSL Texas Conference road trip of the year and the first leg of the Texas Trail Classic between Shreveport and Fort Worth.
The Vaqueros (2-0) opened the season with a pair of home wins while the Rafters (0-2) are winless in two tries.
The Texas Trail Classic launched in 2016 when Shreveport joined the NPSL. The Rafters claimed the inaugural derby and set of longhorns that represent the rivalry.
During the Vaqueros strong start, the Boys in Blue enjoyed for goals from four different players. Defensively, the Vaqueros backline earned shutouts in both matches.
“Shreveport got the better of us last year in conference play and in the Texas Trail Classic,” Vaqueros general manager Tobias Xavier Lopez said. “I expect they will fight tirelessly to retain the horns and move up the conference standings.”
