SGES Student Crowned 2017 Chess Champion
Third grade students from seven Keller ISD elementary schools competed in the Annual Keller ISD First Move Chess Tournament on May 25 at the KISD Education Center and Brady Wilhelmson from Shady Grove was crowned this year’s champion.
Second and third grade students at many Keller ISD campuses have been learning about chess throughout the year as part of the First Move Chess Program, now in its fourth year in the District. Strategies and skills learned through the program help improve critical thinking skills, and teach patience and thinking ahead.
Campuses that participated in this years tournament included: Eagle Ridge, Friendship, Independence, Lone Star, Park Glen, Ridgeview and Shady Grove.
Keller ISD’s First Move Chess Tournament brought the top 16 third-grade chess players from each of the participating campuses to compete for the title of KISD Chess Champion.
