Two KISD Swimmers Headed for USA Swim Camp
USA Swimming will send two Keller ISD high school athletes to the University of Louisville this summer to train at the 2017 Southern Zone Select Camp.
Margaret Mabry of Indian Springs Middle School and Donny Scott of Central High School both earned a spot at the camp. The camp is a significant step for swimmers with dreams of swimming on a national or international level. Only 28 male and female athletes are selected to attend the camp from across the 11 states in the Southern Zone.
Both Margaret and Donny train and compete for Lakeside Aquatic Club under the direction of Coach Jason Walter at the KISD Natatorium, and both were selected based on their 2016 Long Course Meters (LCM) IMX point scores in the following events: 400-Meter Freestyle, 200 Backstroke, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly, and the 200 and 400 Individual Medley. To be chosen on IMX score, a swimmer’s point scored would rank them as one of the Top Seven athletes his or her age in the Southern Zone.
The Southern Zone Camp is also a motivational opportunity for swimmers aged 12-14 to take their athletic career to a new level through an intense weekend of training and education with other top athletes and coaches in the southern United States.
Congratulations and good luck to Margaret and Donny!
