Keller High School Softball won its second consecutive UIL Class 6A State Championship, defeating Austin Bowie 5-1 on Saturday, June 3

The Indians – Region 1-6A and District 3-6A Champions – battled a tough Bowie team playing in front of their hometown crowd and two weather delays to capture their second 6A State Championship in as many years and their fourth State Title overall.

Keller High scored early and didn’t look back, notching runs in each of the first three innings – two each in the first and second, and a fifth run in the third inning. Bowie would score its only run in the bottom of the third, and while the teams played to a stalemate from then on, they were interrupted twice by inclement weather. Lightning in the area caused a 90-minute delay in the middle of the fifth, and after returning to play a quick inning and a third, more bad weather caused a second 90-minute delay with one out in the bottom of the sixth. But the Indians didn’t falter, shutting down Bowie to collect the final five outs and the Championship 20 minutes before midnight.

Senior second baseman Camryn Woodall earned Championship Game MVP honors as she went 2-for-4 on the night, hitting a big two-run double in the second inning that put Keller up 4-0 at the time.

The Indians got all the runs they needed in the first inning in which some aggressive base running led to a pair of Bowie errors and to a pair of KHS runs. Keller’s fifth and final run would came in the third on an inside-the-park homerun by freshman outfielder Brooke Davis.

Sophomore pitcher Dylann Kaderka went the distance for the Indians, allowing only the one run and six hits, while striking out five and not allowing a walk. Her defense was flawless behind her, playing errorless ball while the Bulldogs recorded four errors on the night.

With the win in the Championship game and the 5-2 win over Deer Park in the Semifinals the night before, Keller High finishes the season 35-6-1, and joins Indians teams from 2003, 2005, and 2016 as State Champions.

Congratulations to the 2017 State Champion Keller High Softball team!
