HEB ISD: Wilshire Art Teacher’s Sketch Becomes Popular Symbol of Hurricane Relief

David Burk, art teacher at Wilshire Elementary, created a sketch of a police officer rescuing a woman and child during the Harvey disaster. Burk’s portrayal became a widely shared representation of the action many have taken to assist Texans affected by tropical storms. He received responses from Officer David Hudeck, the officer portrayed, and from the leadership of the Houston Police Department’s SWAT team. They shared their reaction to Burk’s art: “your work captured that moment, which will forever be a symbol of all first-responders during a very difficult time.”
