Shane Smith Named Director of Technical Services
Shane Smith, who has served Irving ISD students and staff for 13 years, has been named director of technical services. In his new role, he will oversee the ongoing planning, implementation and maintenance of the district’s end-user technology purchases, installation, inventory control and help desk operations.
“Mr. Smith has an excellent combination of classroom, technology and business finance experience,” says Chief Technology Officer Alvin McQuarters. “This unique set of experiences will continue to serve Mr. Smith well in providing outstanding service to our students and staff, as well as in managing our valuable technology assets.”
Smith began his career in education in 2005 as a math teacher at Houston Middle School. After five years as a math teacher, he served Houston and de Zavala middle schools, as well as MacArthur and Nimitz high schools as an instructional technology specialist. In 2013, Smith joined the central office technology team as an instructional technology coordinator, and he has been a servant and advocate for all students and all campuses in his five years as a coordinator.
Smith earned dual bachelor’s degrees in economics and finance from Texas Tech University. He went on to earn his MBA in finance from Texas Tech as well. He is certified as a 4-8 generalist and high school science teacher and holds ESL and special education endorsements.
“I am honored and excited to be given the opportunity to lead such an experienced technical services team,” says Smith. “I’m looking forward to continuing to collaborate with all of Team Irving while emphasizing customer service and teamwork. I’m thrilled to able to serve the students and staff of Irving ISD in a new way.”
Smith will begin transitioning to his new role on February 4.
