Colleyville rated safest city in Texas
The City of Colleyville continues its legacy of safety by placing in state and national rankings based on the city’s safety.
The National Council for Home Safety and Security named Colleyville the number one safest city in Texas. Neighborhood Scout, a real estate data website, ranked Colleyville as the 11th safest city in the United States. Both organizations used FBI crime data to compile the lists.
“Safety is the most essential service for a city and I am glad to see our efforts are recognized,” Mayor Richard Newton said.
The National Council for Home Safety and Security recognized that Colleyville 0.23 violent crimes per 1,000 is 26 times lower than the state average. Right behind Colleyville were the cities of Keller, Highland Village, Trophy Club, and Murphy.
Colleyville was the highest ranking Texas city at the 11 spot in the national list. Topping the list is Ridgefield, Connecticut followed by Bergenfield, New Jersey, and Franklin, Massachusetts. Neighboring Keller ranked 16.
Colleyville Police saw a 2-percent drop in crime in 2017. Data shows Colleyville saw a drop in Part 1 crimes, which include violent crimes such as aggravated assault and robbery and property crimes such as burglaries and thefts. The reduction came in a decrease of burglaries and thefts. The city saw 37 reported burglary cases in 2017 compared to 45 in 2016, and 34 burglary of vehicle cases in 2017 compared to 41 in 2016.
