NISD: Wrestlers compete at national meet, earn All-American honors
Six Northwest ISD wrestlers recently competed in the Freestyle and Greco-Roman Wrestling Junior Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota, with three placing among the top seven finishers in their respective weight classes at the freestyle tournament.
The top finish from a Northwest ISD student in the girls’ competition was earned by Byron Nelson High School rising senior Kaylynn Albrecht, who finished second in the 152-pound classification. Fellow Byron Nelson wrestler Lexie Basham, a rising junior, earned fifth place in the 138-pound weight class.
From Eaton, rising senior Mattison Parker finished seventh in the 138-pound weight class.
With their finishes, each wrestler has earned All-American honors. Notably, all three wrestlers competed at the UIL Wrestling State Tournament, and they are all returning students.
In addition to the All-American finishers, Northwest rising senior Madison Brown and Eaton rising senior Iman Thomas also competed in the girls competition. Iman advanced to the consolation bracket’s round of eight in the 180-pound weight class, while Madison advanced to the consolation round of 16 in the 106-pound weight class. Madison is a returning bronze medalist from the Texas state meet.
On the boys’ side, rising sophomore Hayden Smith of Byron Nelson competed in the prestigious national tournament.
