KISD: Panther Pride Debuts Avid Scholarship Opportunity For Frhs Seniors

The Panther Pride feeder pattern is proud to announce the new AVID Scholarship, open to any Fossil Ridge High School graduating senior.

Over the last three years, the AVID Coordinators from Chisholm Trail Intermediate, Fossil Hill Middle, and Fossil Ridge High put together a feeder pattern shirt to sell to all students, teachers, and staff in the FRHS feeder campuses. Although AVID is not yet in the Panther Pride elementary schools, they still wanted to show that all students, no matter what school they are in, will receive the school-wide AVID strategies and success tools to give the strong foundation they will need to be great learners.

“We wanted to give the message that we are all AVID,” Fossil Hill Middle AVID Campus Coordinator Amber Womble said. “While the majority of the shirts purchased were from CTI, FHMS, and FRHS, we still couldn’t be offering a scholarship like this without the help of our elementary schools.”

This year, details were finalized for the scholarship and it is open to any Fossil Ridge senior, whether they are in the AVID elective or not.

“We have such fabulous teachers at Fossil Ridge that we are confident that all students leaving Panther Pride are receiving the AVID strategies needed to succeed in college,” Womble said.

Through the support of feeder pattern schools, they raised $3,000 and will be able to hand out scholarships ranging from $500-$1,000.

“Moving forward, we plan to increase shirt sales with our elementary schools and add in local restaurant fundraising opportunities so even community members without children currently in our schools can have a hand in assisting our college-bound seniors,” Womble said.

Fossil Ridge Seniors can apply simply by filing out the application and providing the necessary documents. Click here to download the scholarship application. Scholarship applications will be accepted through March 9, 2019.
