Lewisville: St. Paddy’s Texas Style
The City of Lewisville is ready to party, and we’re doing it in a big way, combining St. Patrick’s Day and Texas Independence Day into one big celebration. St. Paddy’s Texas Style will take place on Saturday, March 16, 1-10 p.m., at Wayne Ferguson Plaza, 150 W. Church Street.
This free, family-friendly event will feature Blues guitarist Ian Moore as the headlining act, an Irish dance troupe, two Irish musical acts, a Texas-country act, carnival attractions, life-sized games, and plenty of food to feed your appetite. The evening closes with a showing of the Scottish-themed Disney movie “Brave,” starting around 7:45 p.m. We’ll even turn the water features in Wayne Ferguson Plaza green to help set the festive mood.
Students from the Maguire Academy of Irish Dance will perform at 1 p.m. The dancers perform around the state at major cultural events to promote and keep alive the art of traditional Irish dancing.
Reel Treble will perform at 1:45 p.m. This up-tempo Irish, Scottish, Old Time & Bluegrass band rocked the stage at St. Paddy’s Texas Style last year. You can see some of their performance on the City of Lewisville YouTube page. Reel Treble performs as a 3-5-person band. Their friendship grew through their passion for playing up-tempo Irish tunes at local sessions, to busking, and then starting their new band Reel Treble to perform at local venues and events.
Rising country singer Sarah Hobbs will perform at 3:15 p.m. She made her Lewisville debut last July as the opening act of the Red, White and Lewisville event. You can watch some of her performance from that show on the City of Lewisville YouTube page.
Celtic rock band Rathmore takes the stage at 4:45 p.m. Their contemporary take on traditional Celtic tunes is one of the many ways they create a family friendly soundscape, combining time honored music tradition with their original take on the genre. Rathmore is a big hit in Lewisville, having performed as part of the Rocktober concert series. You can see some of their performance from last year’s St. Paddy’s Texas Style on the City of Lewisville YouTube page.
Blues guitarist Ian Moore makes his Lewisville debut when he takes the stage at 6:15 p.m. The Austin-based guitarist’s music contains elements of psychedelic rock, soul, folk, and blues, with deep literary influences. Moore has 11 full-length albums to his credit, and several more EP’s, including “Toronto,” which was released last year. During his career, Moore has shared the stage with ZZ Top, Bob Dylan, and the Rolling Stones.
Free event parking will be available at Lewisville City Hall and in the public parking lots located on Mill Street, Walters Street, and Kealy Avenue. Food and Irish beers will be available for purchase. Church Street, from Mill Street to Charles Street, will be closed to parking beginning at 7 a.m., and that portion of the road will be closed for this event beginning at 9 a.m.
Pop’s Kettle Corn, JBW Vending, LLC., TM Ice Cream, and Fried Ribs to Go will be onsite for attendees to buy food.
