NISD: Byron Nelson earns five Dallas Summer Musicals award nominations
Byron Nelson High School’s fine arts department has garnered five nominations in the prestigious Dallas Summer Musicals High School Musical Theatre Awards competition, with nominations highlighting its acting and technical capabilities.
All nominations came from the school’s production of “The Drowsy Chaperone.” Student actors earned nominations across four categories: Jack Gates for best leading actor, Whitney Stoncipher for best leading actress, Blayne Stonecipher for best supporting actor and Melanie McBride for best supporting actress. The show’s cast and crew earned a best technical execution nomination as a group.
Notably, this marks the third consecutive year Byron Nelson has earned multiple nominations in the awards program.
Dallas Summer Musicals’ awards program is among the top honors available for musical theatre students in the area, with the winners of the Best Actor and Best Actress category each earning a $10,000 scholarship and a trip to New York to perform on Broadway. Those winners will then compete in the National High School Musical Theatre Awards – also known as the Jimmy Awards, for Broadway producer James “Jimmy” Nederlander – for further awards.
The High School Musical Theatre Awards competition will take place Thursday, May 9. For more information, visit www.dallassummermusicals.org.
