NISD: High schools combine for 12 Buckley theatre awards nominations
Northwest ISD’s three comprehensive high schools – Byron Nelson, Eaton and Northwest – have combined for 12 nominations in the prestigious Betty Lynn Buckley Awards, one of the top competitions in the state for theatre.
Northwest earned the most nominations of the three schools for its performance of “Tuck Everlasting,” with six. The school earned nominations for best musical, choreography (Kaleb Speakman, Aubrey Burnett, Sydney Lowe), lighting design (Mackenzie Pickett, Madison Dixon, Hana Baldwin), sound design (Amberlie Patton, Kai Pope), scenic design (James Berquist, Melinda Pena, Kaylee Simpson) and costume design (Kaylee Simpson, Warner Simpson).
Eaton earned four nominations for its performance of “Peter Pan,” earning consideration in both group and individual categories. The Eagles earned nominations in student orchestra, lighting design (Ethan Inthisone), scenic design (Jennelle Cumberland) and male supporting actor in a musical (Parker Hill).
Byron Nelson earned two nominations for two of its productions, best musical for “The Drowsy Chaperone” and best male actor in a play for “Picasso at the Lapin Agile” (Ethan Gates).
