Best-Selling Author Visits Irving ISD for School Lunch Hero Day

WHAT: In honor of School Lunch Hero Day, Irving ISD will join districts nationwide to celebrate the unsung superheroes who keep students healthy, active and engaged every day. The phenomenon created by the School Nutrition Association is in its seventh year, recognizing food service professionals in school districts across the country.
Schulze Elementary School will welcome renowned author and illustrator Jarrett J. Krosoczka for a special visit. The New York Times best-selling talent will join third-grade students for a
45-minute presentation on his widely popular series, Lunch Lady.
The morning will also consist of a gift presentation by Irving ISD director of food and nutrition services Olga Rosenberger to Schulze cafeteria staff, followed by a book signing with Krosoczka.
The day is the perfect culmination to a year already brimming with success for Irving ISD’s food and nutrition services department. The team was recently honored with the Gold for
Excellence in the Summer Meals Campaign, given by Texas Hunger Initiative. The advocacy organization, Children at Risk North Texas, also released their rankings naming Irving ISD sixth in the state for providing access to healthy meals and snacks.
