Keller ISD Announces New Central HS, Bear Creek IS Principals

Keller ISD is excited to announce that Elizabeth Russo will be the next principal at Central High School, while Brenda Riebkes will be the next principal at Bear Creek Intermediate School.

Elizabeth Russo is currently the principal at Hurst Junior High in Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD, a position she has held for the past three school years. Prior to her time as principal, she was an assistant principal at the school for seven years.

In addition to her time at HEB ISD, Russo has administrative experience in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, and prior to that, taught high school-level math in Desoto ISD and Mansfield ISD. However, Russo is no stranger to Keller ISD. She is a resident in the District and has served on the KISD District Educational Improvement Committee (DEIC).

“This experience, along with raising her family in KISD, make this homecoming even more special,” said Tommie Johnson, KISD Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. “Ms. Russo is an excellent addition to our already exceptional campus administrators, and the students and staff at Central High School will benefit greatly from her experience and leadership.”

Russo holds a Master of Education in Educational Administration from the University of North Texas, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Mathematics Education from Oklahoma Baptist University. She is currently enrolled in a Doctoral Program at Texas A&M University at Commerce. Russo will officially begin her new position in July, replacing retiring Principal David Hinson.

New Bear Creek Intermediate Principal Brenda Riebkes served as an assistant principal at the campus from 2014-17, and has been an assistant principal at Indian Springs Middle School for the past two years. Prior to becoming a school administrator, Riebkes taught Pre-AP English and coached at ISMS, serving as Academic Team Leader and Girls’ Athletic Coordinator.

Riebkes earned her Master of Educational Technology in Leadership at Lamar University and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Northern Iowa. She completed her Principal Certification in 2014.

“In her new role as principal at Bear Creek Intermediate, we look forward to Ms. Riebkes effectively combining her knowledge and strong leadership skills with the relationships she has already established in the Keller High School feeder pattern,” Johnson said. “We are excited to see her return to the BCI community.”

Riebkes takes over at BCIS after the departure of Principal Amanda Burruel to Keller Middle School, where she is replacing retiring Principal Sandra Mc Auley.
