KISD: Board Approves Surplus 2019-20 Budget
Keller ISD’s Board of Trustees approved by a 6-0 vote at its June 17 Monthly Regular Meeting a $318.6 million budget in the General Fund for the District’s 2019-20 fiscal year, which accounts for changes to school funding made in House Bill 3 and includes a slight surplus.
The budget makes accommodations to comply with changes made in the latest state legislative session that aim to provide additional funding to Texas school districts and provide increases in teacher salaries. The Board elected to approve a budget that reflected the current understanding of House Bill 3 with plans to amend it if necessary.
The 2019-20 budget anticipates $318,609,305 in expenditures from the General Fund for the 2019-20 school year, which would provide a $193,840 surplus.
The budget is the result of months of work by the Keller ISD Finance Department, district and campus administrators, and the Board of Trustees as the board members have discussed the information in a number of Budget Workshop Sessions leading up to the final vote.
Keller ISD’s Board of Trustees will adopt a new tax rate in August, following the Tarrant Appraisal District’s July release of final taxable values, and the overall rate is expected to decrease from $1.51 per $100 property valuation to $1.4084.
