KISD: Caprock Students Participate In Summer Of Kindness
Caprock Elementary fourth grader Evelyn Sigala is working this summer to not only complete an act of kindness on her summer bucket list, but to go above and beyond to raise money and purchase school supplies for students in need.
Sigala was inspired to complete random acts of kindness through the Kindness Fair, hosted at CES during the last week of school. She chose to focus on collecting school supplies because she would notice classmates throughout the year who did not have all the suppies they needed. She knew some students would collect food from the food bank and thought if they didn’t have the food they needed, they could also use some help with school supplies. She was able to set up a stand for donations outside of a local business, and serve lemonade.
“I told my mom I wanted to do this because we are the future and I want to help others as much as I can,” Sigala said. “We are going to do this a few more times this summer and also have a car wash to collect even more money.”
In just two days, Sigala collected more than $400 and she is still receiving donations online.
“I’ve sold many virtual lemonade cups,” she said.
Sigala is one of many students at Caprock who were committed to continuing their acts of kindness throughout the summer months.
“The summer bucket list reminds me that we should always try to help others because at the end of the day, we are all one – it doesn’t matter our race, religion or background,” Sigala said.
