‘WEIGH THE WASTE’ CONTEST TEACHES STUDENTS ABOUT REDUCING FOOD WASTE

‘WEIGH THE WASTE’ CONTEST TEACHES STUDENTS ABOUT REDUCING FOOD WASTE

Sodexo, Keller ISD’s food services provider, hosted a “Weigh the Waste” competition Monday, October 21, to help educate students on the importance of reducing food waste at school, home, or anywhere they go.

Keller-Harvel Elementary, Lone Star Elementary, and Sunset Valley Elementary each hosted its own Weigh the Waste contest. Students in each grade were asked to deposit their food waste in a container to be weighed, separate from other trash and recyclables. The grade at each school that recorded the lowest weight total was named “Waste-Less Winner.”

At KHES, the fourth-graders won the competition; LSES first-grade students were “Waste-Less Winners” at that campus, and second-graders at SVES left the least amount of food waste during its lunch period.

Thank you to all of the students who participated and to Sodexo for demonstrating the importance of reducing waste.
