Carroll Cross Country Sweeps UIL State Meet

The Carroll Athletic Department is celebrating its first state championships of the 2019-2020 school year. The Dragon Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams put up better than impressive performances at the state meet this past weekend to earn TWO team state championships.

The Girls were led by four top 15 finishes from Jenna Holland, Katherine McElaney, Grace Williamson, and Tatum Foreman. Abigail McIlvain and Lydia Lo both finished in the top 25 to help add points to a very dominant performance by the Lady Dragons. This program has been to the state meet an impressive 23 straight years, and this state championship was the program’s eighth state championship.

Heading into the Boy’s race this weekend, there were predictions that said this championship was a three-school race between the Dragons, Flower Mound and The Woodlands. The Dragons were led by Solomon Chavez, who ran one of the best races of his career, to finish in the top ten. The consistency of this Dragon team to race fast and place from top to bottom lead to the Dragons knocking off the four consecutive state champions, The Woodlands. This was the Boy’s fifth UIL state championship in the program’s history.
