The Lone Star Youth Orchestra invites you to join us for “Concertos and Carols” on December 6, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. during the Irving Arts Center’s Holiday Open House.
The Lone Star Youth Orchestra helps spread the holiday cheer at the Irving Arts Center’s Holiday Open House. Come hear orchestral works that illuminate the winter season!
Dust off your Santa hat, harness up your reindeer, gather your family, and bid farewell to 2019 with us on Friday, December 6th at 6:30 p.m. in the Dupree Theater. Included on the brief Christmas-themed program are works by composers Arcangelo Corelli and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor (known as “The Black Mahler”).
Now in his fifth year as conductor of the Lone Star Youth Orchestra, Dr. Kevin Pearce brings a unique combination of a world-class musical background and an unending commitment to education. Pearce earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in Orchestral Conducting at the University of North Texas, in the studio of David Itkin. He currently teaches orchestra in the Rockwall ISD. Prior to his move to North Texas, Pearce served from 2008-2013 as the inaugural Director of Orchestras at Cypress Lakes High School in the western suburbs of Houston. During his tenure, the Cypress Lakes Orchestras won multiple UIL Sweepstakes awards, as well as top honors in local and national festivals.
The Lone Star Youth Orchestra is the only tuition-free youth orchestra in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and is one of the most pivotal pre-college experiences for talented high school instrumentalists. Membership in the Lone Star Youth Orchestra is open to all middle and high school string, woodwind, brass, and percussion players. The LSYO offers rolling auditions throughout the season for interested student musicians.
