TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF BUSINESS RELEASING LEGISLATOR SCORECARD FOLLOWING 86th LEGISLATIVE SESSION

TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF BUSINESS RELEASING LEGISLATOR SCORECARD FOLLOWING 86th LEGISLATIVE SESSION

Texas Association of Business, the voice of Texas business, released its biennial legislative scorecard today. 17 Senators and 82 Representatives were named either Champions or Fighters for Free Enterprise.

The scorecard ranks all Texas legislators on their pro-business voting record during the 86th Legislative Session. Texas Association of Business tracks and reports how each state legislator voted on business legislation. This scorecard allows the Texas Association of Business’ members to determine which lawmakers are fighting for businesses, jobs, and paychecks.

“Our scorecard is a useful means of assessing Texas lawmaker’s commitment to pro-business and free enterprise. The scorecard is created by evaluating legislator’s votes on the bills that will impact Texas businesses; these are the priorities of our public policy committees,” says Jeff Moseley, CEO, Texas Association of Business. “We salute our TAB Champions and Fighters for free enterprise and credit them with holding the line on keeping Texas’ business climate strong.”

The 86th Texas Legislature had a pro-business agenda thanks to the efforts of Governor Greg Abbott, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, and Speaker Dennis Bonnen. In this session, we saw a breakthrough on two big issues: school finance and property tax reform.

“The stakes are high in Texas and we recognize it,” continued Moseley. “Our members are looking for ways to be more engaged, and this scorecard allows business owners and leaders along with Chambers of Commerce executives throughout the state to hold their representatives accountable at the polls.”

Texas Association of Business’ scorecard considers a large variety of legislation that impacted the business environment including health policy, permitting reform, public education, environmental quality, and economic development.
