Keller ISD Welcomes Coach David Park to Hall of Fame

Keller ISD’s Athletics Department has named former Keller High School cross country and track coach David Park as the 2014 inductee of its Athletics Hall of Fame. Coach David Park will be inducted into the Keller ISD Athletics Hall of Fame at the annual Hall of Fame Banquet, scheduled for May 18, 2014, at the Texas Motor Speedway. The event will begin with a silent auction at 1:30 p.m. with a reception following at 2 p.m. and the awards ceremony at 2:30 p.m. For tickets, sponsorships or additional information, please contact the Keller ISD Athletics Department at 817-744-1066.

Park coached in Keller ISD for 21 years, the last 14 of those as the Head Coach of the KHS cross country and track and field programs. In 2004, he took the same position at Decatur High School where his cross country teams have collected six regional championships and four state championships over the span of a decade. In the first 30 years of his coaching career, Park’s teams amassed 32 district championships between cross country and track and field, 14 of which came while he was at Keller High School. He has also seen 33 of his cross country teams qualify for regionals and 15 of those qualify for state. Including his teams’ four state championships, Park has had teams on the medal stand at the state competition on nine occasions and also coached an individual cross country state champion in 2013.

Park has earned Cross Country Coach of the Year recognition five times, and in 2013, the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) named him the Southwest Region Cross Country Coach of the Year. With his induction, Park becomes the 10th Keller ISD coach to be welcomed into the Athletics Hall of Fame, joining the likes of A.K. Thetford (2001), Bill Kidd (2006), and John Price (2010), among others. Park said that while he is honored to have earned a spot in the Keller ISD Athletics Hall of Fame, he also knows that his job is and always has been about the kids he has the opportunity to coach, and gives them the credit for the recognitions he has earned over the years.
