Fort Worth Vaqueros announce Opening Weekend activities
FORT WORTH _ One day will not be enough for the Fort Worth Vaqueros to launch their first season, so instead, Opening Weekend is a better description.
The Vaqueros’ inaugural season in the National Premier Soccer League kicks off with fireworks May 9 and concludes with a special Mother’s Day match May 11.
“All of the efforts of the Vaqueros staff and players to bring a meaningful soccer experience to Fort Worth will launch with a celebration of the beautiful game on opening weekend,” Tobias Xavier Lopez, director of business operations said. “If you see a few tears in our eyes that weekend, it won’t be because of the luscious LaGrave Field grass.”
The Vaqueros begin play at 7:30 p.m. CT Friday May 9 at LaGrave Field against the defending South Central Conference champion Tulsa Athletics. Corporate sponsor Dr Pepper Snapple Group will hand out commemorative team posters to the first 2,500 fans (kids 5 and under get in free). A slew of city leaders and community VIPs are already lined up to attend.
The Fort Worth sky and Trinity River area will light up after the match with post game fireworks.
As part of the first match, the Vaqueros have commissioned 100 signature soccer scarves commemorating the special occasion. The $25 scarf package includes a general admission ticket and scarf. Season seat holders can reserve their commemorative scarf for $15.
In keeping with the Vaqueros commitment to community input, the DJ booth will be controlled by the supporters or “DJ Vaqueros”, who will vote throughout the game on the evening’s song selections.
Opening weekend will close with a special Sunday Mother’s Day match at 5:30 p.m. CT May 11 at LaGrave Field.
Moms get into the game free by calling ahead or visiting the LaGrave box office on gameday.
Fort Worth will put local pride on the line as the visitors from North Dallas, the Liverpool Warriors head over to Cowtown for the match.
The game, dubbed “Fort Worth Soccer Night,” will feature a parade of youth soccer teams from the Fort Worth youth soccer associations.
The Vaqueros community outreach will be in full force as our partner Hispano Exito, will be collecting backpacks or gently used soccer gear to benefit area youth. The Vaqueros will give a free ticket to the May 29th game for every item donated to the Pass Back promotion.
“We have said repeatedly that the Vaqueros are a community organization and the Pass Back program with Hispano Exito is just another step in our commitment to the youth of Fort Worth,” Lopez said.
DJ Vaqueros will once again control the song selection during this and all home games in 2014
