Governor’s Office Accepting Nominations for Star of Texas Awards
AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry’s office is now accepting nominations for the 2014 Star of Texas Awards, which honor peace officers, firefighters and emergency medical first responders who were seriously injured or killed in the line of duty. Nominations for this year’s awards must be submitted to the Governor’s Office by June 15, 2014, with the awards ceremony taking place in September. “The Star of Texas Awards pay a special honor and appreciation to the Texans who have made heroic sacrifices in the line of duty,” Gov. Perry said. “While we can never adequately thank these brave men and women for their service, these awards recognize those who have fallen or been injured while courageously protecting and preserving our communities.” To be eligible for the 2014 award, the critical incident must have occurred between Sept. 1, 2003 and June 15, 2014, and the first responder must not have previously received a Star of Texas Award for that particular event.
