BISD School Notes

Haltom City, Birdville Council of PTAs and BISD are partnering for a Back-to-School Health Fair from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. July 26 at Haltom High School. This event is only for BISD students living in Haltom City. The first 1000 eligible students will receive backpacks. There will be free vision and dental screening, free family photos and information from various vendors and businesses. BISD summer work hours will continue through Aug. 1. All offices will be open from 7:30 a.m. ‒ 5 p.m. Mondays‒Thursdays. Offices will be closed on Fridays. Regular hours will resume Aug. 4.

BISD athletic and fine arts programs offer summer camps for students of all ages. For a list of camps available this summer, go to http://schools.birdvilleschools.net/summercamp.

Birdville ISD will begin accepting OPEN ENROLLMENT, tuition-free transfers of resident and non-resident students for the 2014-15 school year on Aug. 1. For information, visit www.birdvilleschools.net/openenrollment.

BISD football season tickets for 2014 are on sale through Aug. 15 at the athletics office in the Thomas Coliseum. Season ticket packets for Birdville High School are $35, Richland High School are $35, and Haltom High School are $42. For information, call 817-547-5820.

Online registration for the 2014-15 school year begins Aug. 6 for returning BISD students. With online registration, primary family members of returning students can complete and verify required documents and eliminate the need to go to the school to register. To access online registration, the parent/guardian must have a Family Access login. If you do not know your Family Access login, please contact your child’s school after Aug. 6, or prior to Aug. 6, visit BISD’s Administration Building Monday – Thursday between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Administration Building is located at 6125 E. Belknap in Haltom City.

Online registration in Birdville ISD begins Aug. 6 for new and returning students. For details, visit http://schools.birdvilleschools.net/onlineregistration. For new students only: Documentation verification is Aug. 11 from 8-11 a.m. for A-L and from 3-7 p.m. from M-Z. Documentation verification is Aug. 12 from 8-11 a.m. for M-Z and from 3-7 p.m. for A-L. Parents of new students should bring the following for verification: Parent identification – Driver’s license or passport; Student identification – (one of the following): birth certificate, passport, adoption records, any other legal document that establishes identity; student’s Social Security card; proof of residence – utility bill: water, gas, electric, or lease agreement, cable bill, mortgage payment book, homeowners insurance, etc.; and, student’s current immunization records.

BISD’s prekindergarten registration information is available online at http://schools.birdvilleschools.net/Page/21949. Pre-K registration is from 8-11 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. Aug. 5-7 at the Thomas Coliseum. Students zoned for Birdville, Stowe, Francisco, Smith, the Academy at West Birdville and Cheney elementary schools register Aug. 5. Students zoned for Binion, Mullendore, Snow Heights, Spicer, Hardeman, Watauga and Richland elementary schools register Aug. 6. Students zoned for Foster Village, Green Valley, Porter, Walker Creek, Holiday Heights, the Academy at C.F. Thomas, North Ridge and Smithfield elementary schools register Aug. 7. There will not be a shot clinic provide at registration.

BISD’s Kindergarten Round-up is from 8-11 a.m. and 4-7 p.m. Aug. 11-12 at the elementary campus designated by attendance zones. BISD has an employee recognition program called “A Touch of Class.” This program is an opportunity for students, staff, parents and community members to recognize employees for the extra-ordinary things they do for children and the district. BISD is accepting online applications for parent/community volunteers for the 2014‒15 school year. New and returning volunteers can enter or renew their applications online at http://schools.birdvilleschools.net/Page/31523.

Birdville ISD and JPS have joined together to provide two school-based clinics in the district. One is in Haltom City at 2807 Layton Ave., and the other is on the south side of the Academy at C.F. Thomas at 8200 O’Brian Way in North Richland Hills. The clinics treat students in BISD and their siblings, ages newborn to 18 years old. Services include: well-child visits, sports physicals, acute care, chronic illnesses (asthma, diabetes), immunizations, and much more. The clinic does not have X-ray capabilities or dental services. They see uninsured or Medicaid students that do not have a specified primary care physician. For appointments, call 817-759-2035 (Haltom City) or 817-547-3046 (C.F. Thomas).
