Texas Democrats In Court To Preserve Every Texan’s Vote
Austin, TX – Today, Texas’ redistricting case is back in federal court. A three-judge panel in San Antonio will hear the arguments regarding discriminatory statehouse and congressional districts approved by the Republican supermajority of the 82nd Texas State Legislature in 2011.
As the case begins, Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa released the following statement:
“Today, we once again have our day in court, just as we did years ago when the Texas redistricting saga began. We remain confident that we will prevail.”
“The right to vote is the cornerstone of our democracy. Texas Democrats are in court today to preserve that right for all Texans. Your vote is your voice, and we will not allow Republicans like Greg Abbott to muffle the voices of Texas.
“Attorney General Greg Abbott continues his relentless pursuit to tear down the Voting Rights Act and attack Texan’s right to vote. For years, federal judges both in San Antonio and in Washington, D.C. have ruled that the Republican’s discriminatory maps cannot stand. Still, Abbott and Republicans continue their schemes to silence Texas’ growingly diverse population.”
