What is a mayor?
A mayor is the person designated as the formal head of a city as mandated by the state or charter of the city. For the City of Watauga, the person holding the position of mayor must meet certain eligibility requirements. Those requirements include the following: Must be a resident of the city and of the State of Texas at least 12 months immediately preceding his or her election, must be a qualified voter of the State of Texas and of the city, must be 21 years of age or older at the time of filing or assuming office, not be employed by the City, not hold another governmental elected office, not have been determined to mentally incompetent by a final judgment of the court and shall not have been convicted of a felony offense or misdemeanor offense involving moral turpitude.
