Senator Leticia Van de Putte Approves VA Reform Legislation
Texas veterans were finally heard by Republicans and Democrats in Washington D.C. Today, President Obama signed into law the Veterans Access, Choice and Accountability Act of 2014.
Senator Leticia Van de Putte issued the following statement:
“As Lieutenant Governor, I will put Texas veterans first. Our heroes will receive the medical care that they have earned. For over 10 years, I have served as the Chair of the Senate Veteran Affairs and Military Installations Committee. I know that the recent scandals at the VA dishonor our nation’s heroes. Delaying care for those who protect us is unacceptable. The reform legislation signed today is a step in the right direction, but we must be remain vigilant.”
“The Veterans Access, Choice and Accountability Act of 2014 will add thousands of doctors and nurses so that our veterans have new avenues to more quickly receive the medical care they’ve earned. It’s about time the federal government took appropriate action to phase out the perverse system of administrative bonuses that delayed care and risked the lives of so many of our heroes.”
In July, Senator Leticia Van de Putte released her Texas First plan for Veterans: Honoring Those Who Protect Us.
