Gov. Perry Appoints Monty to Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board
Gov. Rick Perry has appointed Jacob Montilijo Monty of Houston to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for a term to expire Aug. 31, 2015. The board sets policies and coordinates efforts to improve higher education in Texas.
Monty is managing partner and founder of Monty and Ramirez LLP. He has been named a “Super Lawyer” by Texas Super Lawyers since 2008, and is board certified in labor and employment law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is a member of the American Bar Association and American Law Institute, and author of two books on immigration and employment. He is a past board member of the University of Houston System Board of Regents, Texas Private Security Board, Texas Mutual Insurance Company Board of Directors and Greater Houston Restaurant Association. He is also a former appointee of President George W. Bush to the North American Development Bank Board of Directors and the Border Environmental Cooperation Commission.
Monty received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and a law degree from the University of Houston Law Center.
