HEB ISD Opens New Career Academy
The business community couldn’t be prouder of the HEB ISD’s Gene A. Buinger Career & Technical Education Academy that opened this school year. This Academy replaces the original Technical Education Center that opened in the early 1970s. It was designed for 250 students but in 2013, 900 students used the campus each day. The new Academy is 140,000 square feet and will allow for continued growth in career and technical education for HEB ISD students. This year, instruction includes animation, architecture, audio/video production, automotive technology, collision repair & refinishing, computer technology, cosmetology, culinary arts, education, engineering, health science and law & public safety. This funding for this facility was part of the 2011 bond election.
The HEB Chamber’s Young Entrepreneurs Academy will meet this school year at the Academy. The program is joint venture of the Chamber and the HEB ISD. Business leaders are needed to be mentors to these budding entrepreneurs. Volunteers to review business plans and be guest speakers, graphic designers and web designers are also needed. In addition a few sponsorship spaces are available for the investor panel.
