ICYMI: Voter ID Law Disenfranchises Senior Citizens
In case you missed it, this week the Texas voter ID trial began in Corpus Christi where U.S. District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos will hear arguments on one of the harshest voter ID laws in the country signed into law by Governor Perry in 2011.
Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa released the following statement:
“This discriminatory law makes it harder for low income, minority and elderly voters to exercise their right to vote. Voting is the cornerstone of our democracy, it’s a chance for all of us to use our voice and express our point of view.
“It is our right and responsibility to vote. Texas is at its best when all of our citizens can participate in the electoral process. The Texas Democratic Party will continue to fight to protect the vote because when the law silences the diverse voices that make our state great, we all miss out.”
