Dragon Observatory Grand Opening

Dragon Observatory Grand Opening

Carroll ISD invites the community to attend a special ribbon cutting ceremony to announce the grand opening of the Dragon Observatory on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at Johnson Elementary.

Made possible through a grant from Hudson Foundation, the the observatory will offer students an opportunity to view planets, star clusters, galaxies and nebulae. The grant also covers the purchase of a portable star lab to be used by both students and members of the Southlake community.

At Wednesday’s ribbon cutting there will be remarks from guest speaker Dr. Taft Armandroff, who is the director of the University of Texas at Austin’s McDonald Observatory in Fort Davis. Following Dr. Armandroff’s remarks, guests will be invited to tour the observatory. Members of the Carroll Astronomy Club will also attend the event. The club has more than 90 junior and senior student members. Many of these students are enrolled in Carroll ISD’s new Astronomy Class taught by Carroll ISD alum, Mr. Sam Graff. Graff joins Carroll ISD after teaching chemistry and AP physics in other districts.

The event begins at 6 p.m. and refreshments will be provided in the school cafeteria.
